Happy Mid-Autumn Festival to all!
It was a true honor that Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong (WASHK) invited us for a series of instrumental workshops. Specifically, we’re showcasing a wide range of orchestral instruments. Today, we focused on the entire flute family, which included the piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute, and the impressive contrabass flute.
The students at WASHK were fantastic. In fact, their strong inquiry mindset showed through the excellent questions they asked. For example, they wanted to know, “How long has the flute been around?” and “What materials make up flutes?” They were curious about all the different types of flutes. One student even asked, “Is a recorder a kind of flute?” These questions from 8- and 9-year-olds were incredibly sharp and made the workshop engaging.
To celebrate the festival, I felt so grateful to perform a flute duet of “The Moon Is My Heart” with my talented student, Lily Young!

These instrumental workshops are more than just a musical demonstration. Instead, they are designed to spark a lifelong interest in music. We give young students a rare, hands-on experience with instruments they might not encounter otherwise. By interacting directly with professionals and asking questions, the children develop a deeper appreciation for the arts. In addition, they gain a better understanding of how music connects to history, science, and culture. Ultimately, we believe that fostering this kind of curiosity is the first step toward creating the next generation of talented musicians and passionate music lovers.
On that note, we wish everyone a warm, delightful, and musical Mid-Autumn Festival! Wanna learn more? Visit Our Programs or Masterclass & Workshop!
