Caspar L. Billington is a dedicated, insightful, passionate, and experienced instructor. He excels at rapidly developing students’ trumpet abilities and their overall understanding of music.
Musical Journey and Accomplishments
Caspar Billington began his musical training and trumpet studies at eight at Westminster Choir School For Boys in London. In 1993, he earned a music scholarship to Sherborne School For Boys. Concurrently, he played with the Dorset Youth Orchestra for five years.
In September 1998, the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester accepted him. John Miller (ex-Philip Jones Brass Ensemble) taught him there. He also gained valuable experience from visiting tutors such as Hakan Hardenberger, Allen Vizzuti, and Wynton Marsalis. During this time, he professionally played with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra. He also performed in the Trelights Brass Quintet, a professional brass ensemble.
In 2002, he earned a Bachelor of Music/GRAD RNCM. In 2003, he completed a Master of Music in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music in England. That same year, he accepted the Second Trumpet position in The Macao Orchestra. He has since performed within the orchestra, as a soloist in the Vivaldi Double Trumpet Concerto, and as a member of the Macao Brass Quintet. He frequently performs with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra has also invited him to play.
Dedicated Educator and Mentor
Caspar Billington served as a trumpet professor for eight years at the Macao Conservatory of Music, Macau’s first full-time specialist music school. His top students have pursued further trumpet studies at highly acclaimed foreign institutions like the Interlochen Centre for the Arts in America. Others continue to develop as players in the region. He has also given masterclasses to large groups of students at Kao Yip Middle School, among others in Macau. Furthermore, he has tutored wind bands to a very high standard.
