A Specialized Educational Foundation

Vivian Heung is a dedicated brass specialist and educator who brings a unique blend of musical mastery and developmental expertise to her teaching. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Studies from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2021. Complementing her musical training, Vivian also holds a Higher Diploma in Early Childhood Education from The Open University of Hong Kong. This dual background allows her to approach brass instruction through a sophisticated pedagogical lens, tailoring her methods to meet the cognitive and physical development of young learners while maintaining high artistic standards.

Leadership in School-Based Ensemble Development

As a specialist in building school-based music programs, Vivian has been a driving force in fostering collaborative performance. She notably founded and established the Brass Ensemble of Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong, building the group from its inception into a key component of the school’s musical identity. Her approach to ensemble direction emphasizes not only technical precision but also the development of “active listening” and section cohesion, essential skills for any developing musician.

Institutional Impact and Specialized Instruction

Vivian’s expertise is sought after by some of the city’s most prestigious international institutions. She currently serves as the Brass Specialist at Quarry Bay School, Wycombe Abbey School, and Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong. In these roles, she manages instrumental growth across diverse age groups, ensuring that the brass sections within these schools are technically proficient and stylistically versatile. Her work within the school system is centered on creating a sustainable pipeline of talent through structured, curriculum-based learning.

Dedicated Private Instruction and Musical Mentorship

In addition to her institutional leadership, Vivian maintains a vibrant practice as a private brass instructor. Her private lessons are deeply pedagogical, focusing on the mechanics of brass playing—such as breath support, embouchure development, and articulation—while nurturing a genuine passion for the instrument. By providing personalized mentorship, she prepares students for both the rigors of examinations and the joys of solo and ensemble performance, bridging the gap between individual practice and professional-standard execution.

A Commitment to Modern Music Education

Combining her rigorous academic training with her practical experience in early childhood education, Vivian remains committed to evolving the way brass instruments are taught in Hong Kong. Whether through her work in international schools or her private studio, she strives to empower the next generation of brass players with a foundation of excellence, discipline, and creative expression.
