Recipient of The Anthony and Sharon Lee Jazz Scholarship (2016-2019), Nigel Leung (BMus Jazz Performance) is a freelance improvising musician based in Australia and Hong Kong. The Daily Telegraph(AU)'s Caryn Metcalfe described him as one of the "representative from Sydney North Shore in the Sydney International Jazz Festival 2016". A review from LiveReviveSydney(AU)'s Matt Jenkins praises the Sandy Evans Group to which he co-led with Alistair Hayes at the Sydney Converge Festival 2017 “Overall, this set made for both beautiful listening and captivating spontaneity that just blew me away, especially everyone solos, so on point."

Nigel has performed across renowned venues as the SIMA Lounge, Venue 505, LazyBones Marrickville Lounge, IOMeyers Studio, John Clancy Auditorium and many more private and corporate performances. A graduate from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney. His teachers include Yacou Mbaye, Simon Barker, Sarangan Sriranganathan whom he spent studying rhythmic & vocal concepts; Gary Schocker, Geoffrey Collins, Rosamund Plummer and Christine Draegar on classical flute repertoire ; Steve Barry, Matt McMahon, Dale Barlow and Dayna Stephens for improvisation and this is just to name a few of the many mentors and colleagues whom he owes much of his playing towards.

His current research interest lies in micro-rhythmic gestures found in Senegalese Sabar and Tama drumming traditions; its' usefulness in compositional structures and improvisational language units. As a multi-instrumentalist, he has had the experience of teaching or performing in woodwind, brass, keyboard and percussion instruments in many diverse musical situations.
