Flute
The flute perhaps is the most popular woodwind instrument after the piano and the violin It could be due to the fact that It looks elegance, relatively small in size, handy and light in weight (compared to the huge brass instruments). The flute mainly plays at the high register and hence it functions like the soprano. Unlike other woodwind instruments which require a reed for tone production, the flute does not require any reed and its sound comes from the flow of air across an opening. Hence it is referred as s "side-blown" instrument. Students who have made good progress on the recorder will find the flute a natural progression.
