C.L.Billington
Billington is a committed, understanding, passionate and
experienced instructor who has the expertise to quickly develop not only students' ability on the trumpet but also their understanding of music as a whole.
Billington started his musical training and the trumpet at the age of eight at Westminster Choir School For Boys in London. In 1993 he was awarded a music scholarship into Sherborne School For Boys. At the same time he played with the Dorset youth Orchestra for five years.
In September 1998 he was accepted into the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He was taught by John Miller (ex Philip Jones Brass Ensemble) as well as gaining valuable experience from visiting tutors such as Hokan Hardenberger, Allen Vizzuti and Wynton Marsalis. During this time he played professionally with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra as well as playing in the Trelights Brass Quintet, a professional brass ensemble.
In 2002 he was awarded a Bachelor of Music/GRAD RNCM and in 2003 a Master of Music in Performance from the Royal Northern College Of Music in England. In the same year he accepted the position of Second Trumpet in The Macao Orchestra where he has performed within the orchestra, as a soloist in the Vivaldi Double Trumpet Concerto and as a member of the Macao Brass Quintet. He has frequently performed with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra as well as being invited to play with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
His teaching experience consists of being trumpet professor for eight years in the Macao Conservatory of music the first full time specialist music school in Macau. His top students have then gone on to further their trumpet studies in highly acclaimed foreign institutions such as the Interlochen Centre for the Arts in America while others continue to develop as players in the region. He has also given masterclasses to students in large groups at the Kao Yip Middle School amongst others in Macau and tutored wind bands to a very high standard.
