A cellist, electronic music producer and composer, Wing-sum Ng Sophie was born and raised in Hong Kong. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music (BCM), Boston, USA, majoring in cello performance and in electronic music production and design. Sophie studied the cello under the tutelage of several renowned cello masters whom included Owen Young, cellist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra; Eugene Friesen, four-time Grammy award recipient and faculty of BCM; Patrice Jackson-Tilghman, Associated Professor of BCM and Artem Konstantinov, former principal cellist of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Sophie earned a distinction in the ABRSM Cello diploma at the age of 13 and achieved second place in the China region selection of the 10th Singapore-China International Music Competition in 2016.

During her time at BCM, Sophie performed as a regular cello recording artist and collaborated on a variety of musical projects. She contributed to film scores, contemporary music, ambient music, pop music, and independent music, among others. Sophie performs regularly with various BCM ensembles, including the orchestra, string quartet, chamber strings orchestra, opera ensemble and the contemporary music groups. Her diverse participation in these performing groups has proven her versatility and adaptability as a musician.
